Abstract

Background: Road sweepers have become essential for urban road maintenance although current versions frequently exhibit inefficiency, especially on small roadways.
Aims: This project aims to design construct an efficient, cost-effective prototype of a street sweeper capable of operating in limited locations, utilizing a motorcycle as the primary driving mechanism.
Methods: The process employed encompasses design utilizing CAD software, prototype construction with carbon steel and standard mechanical components, and subsequent road testing. The results of the experiment indicate that this equipment can clear the road at a velocity of 60 meters per minute when towed by a motorcycle, far faster than the manual method, which requires approximately 5 minutes for the same distance.
Result: This device can gather rubbish at an average rate of 1.6 kg per minute when operated manually and 1 kilogram per minute when trailed by a motorcycle.
Conclusion: Considering the current limitations in waste collection capability, this research offers a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable approach to urban cleanliness, with opportunities for enhanced waste collection capabilities and the integration of electric motors.
